MTP/MPO High-Density Fiber Pre-Connector System

40G networks are gradually being applied in today's backbone transmission networks, requiring long-distance transmission applications in the process.

Product Inquiry:

40G QSFP+SR4 fiber optic transceivers are widely used for short-distance 40G transmission. Typically, the 40G QSFP+SR4 operates at an 850 nm wavelength and supports 40G fiber transmission distances over 150 meters on OM4 multimode fiber. The QSFP+SR4 module uses a dual-channel MIP/MPO interface when plugged into a switch. By using various connection products, there are multiple ways to connect QSFP+SR4 transceivers to other devices to meet different application needs. Additionally, for 40G cabling beyond 10G networks, more fiber cables and spacing pose relatively greater challenges. Below are several high-density QSFP+SR4 transceiver cabling methods.

Solution One:

QSFP+SR4 40G to 40G Application:

Suitable for 40G to 40G transmission in 40G fiber optic networks. The diagram below briefly illustrates how to achieve 40G to 40G multimode transmission through QSFP+SR4 transceivers. Two QSFP+SR4 modules are inserted into two 40G switches respectively, and these two transceivers are connected via a multimode MTP trunk cable. This is the simplest method using QSFP+SR4 transceivers.

Solution Two:

To manage multiple trunk cables and higher density cabling, a 1U fiber patch panel is installed with MTP fiber adapter panels, supporting multiple MTP fiber cable connections, making 40G connections more convenient.

A 1U fiber chassis can install 4 MPO adapter panels, managing up to 288 fiber cores.

Solution Three:

The 40G fiber signal can be split into four 10G signals to meet 40G to 10G transmission requirements. The number of fibers on the 10G distribution side increases, typically using WTP/MPO-LC breakout cables. To better manage cables, a 1U 96-core chassis with four MPO transmission module boxes is recommended. The 40G end connects to the 10G LC ports on the other end. Four 10G-SR SFP+ modules are inserted into 10G switches/ports, connecting to corresponding LC ports, enabling transmission between 40G and duplex 10G LC through high-density fiber chassis and module boxes.

A 1U fiber chassis can install 4 MPO pre-terminated module boxes, managing up to 96 fiber cores.

Solution Four:

High-density pre-terminated solutions can reduce labor requirements and lower overall system installation costs. Fiber cables and equipment are pre-terminated and tested in the factory, enabling quick on-site installation while ensuring quantity and performance. As shown, 40G-10G connections are realized through MPO module boxes pre-installed with MPO-LC low-loss breakout cables, installed in a 1U high-density fiber chassis, easily achieving 10G solutions. Meanwhile, MPO trunk cable specifications range from 12 cores to 144 cores; common MPO connectors are 12-core and 24-core. Pull-tab jumpers are suitable for high-density cabling, improving plug/unplug efficiency.

Installation Note: When the trunk cable is B polarity, both ends must be connected to A polarity and B polarity module boxes respectively to ensure transmission.
